Volvo Car USA has issued a safety recall for more than 413,000 vehicles across multiple model years due to a software issue that may prevent the rear-view camera from displaying during reversing maneuvers. According to the recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the defect is caused by a fault code that, under certain conditions, disables the rear-view camera for the remainder of the vehicle’s driving cycle. While other driver assistance features such as park assist, rear automatic braking, and cross traffic alert remain operational, the lack of a functioning camera could impair rear visibility and increase the risk of collisions during backing events.
The recall encompasses various models outfitted with the Google-built-in infotainment system, referred to as ICUP, including the 2021–2025 S60, V60, V60CC, S90, V90, V90CC, XC60, XC90, XC40, and C40. Production of the affected vehicles spans from September 2020 to April 2025, with software upgrades planned for vehicles starting with the 2026 model year. The issue was first reported in 2021 and escalated following a meeting between Volvo and NHTSA in March 2025.

Affected vehicles will receive a software update to resolve the malfunction. Owners who previously paid out-of-pocket for related repairs may be eligible for reimbursement. Notifications to dealers began on April 30, 2025, and owner notifications are scheduled to begin on June 24, 2025.
