Hyundai Motor America has issued a recall for certain 2025 model year Hyundai Palisade vehicles due to a defect in the electric oil pump that may lead to vehicle fires. The issue affects a limited batch of 620 SUVs manufactured between February 3 and February 24, 2025, and sold in the United States.

The defect stems from insufficient hermetic sealing in the controller housing of the electric oil pump, which was traced to damaged tooling during the supplier’s manufacturing process. This insufficient seal could allow moisture to enter and contaminate the pump’s controller circuit board, potentially resulting in an electrical short and thermal damage. The component in question, identified as part number 46110-4G500, is supplied by MNEX, based in Suwon, South Korea.

Warning signs of the issue may include a burning or melting odor and illumination of the malfunction indicator light. If unaddressed, the malfunctioning controller could pose a heightened fire risk, although the estimated percentage of affected units is just one percent.

As a safety precaution, Hyundai advises owners to park the affected vehicles outdoors and away from structures until the recall is completed. Notifications to vehicle owners will begin on July 4, 2025, with instructions to visit a Hyundai dealer for a free replacement of the electric oil pump controller. Reimbursements will also be provided to those who have already paid for repairs related to this issue, in accordance with Hyundai’s reimbursement plan submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) earlier.

The production issue was corrected on February 27, 2025, after the supplier repaired the faulty tooling and implemented additional quality control measures.
