Volvo Car USA, LLC has issued two separate recalls affecting nearly half a million vehicles due to potential safety defects. One recall addresses a risk of thermal events in the high-voltage battery of certain 2025 Volvo EX30 electric vehicles, while the second addresses a malfunctioning rear-view camera system in a broad range of Volvo C40, EC40, EX40, XC40, XC60, XC90, V60, V60CC, V90, V90CC, and S60 models.

The first recall, identified by NHTSA Recall Number 26V001, impacts 40 potentially involved 2025 Volvo EX30 vehicles produced between September 6, 2024, and October 25, 2025. The defect stems from a process deviation in the manufacturing of high-voltage battery cells by Shandong Geely Sunwoda Power Battery Co. in China. This deviation may lead to the formation of lithium plating growth, which could result in an internal cell short and a potential thermal event, increasing the risk of fire. Drivers may observe a “Battery overheating” message in the Driver Information Module as a warning. Volvo Cars is advising affected customers to limit their vehicle’s battery state of charge to 70% and to refrain from parking their vehicles indoors until a permanent solution is developed. The company is actively working on a final service solution, with a new high-voltage battery variant expected to correct the issue in future production. The planned dealer notification for this recall was January 2, 2026, with owner notification scheduled to begin around February 23, 2026.

The second, more extensive recall, NHTSA Recall Number 25V908, encompasses a significant number of Volvo models equipped with Google-built-in infotainment systems (ICUP). This recall, which supersedes a previous recall (25V282), affects the 2025 Volvo EC40, 2022-2024 Volvo C40BEV, 2025 Volvo EX40, 2021-2025 Volvo XC40, 2023-2025 Volvo XC90, 2022-2025 Volvo XC60, 2022-2025 Volvo V90CC, 2022 Volvo V90, 2022-2025 Volvo S90, 2023-2025 Volvo V60CC, 2023-2025 Volvo V60, and 2023-2025 Volvo S60. In total, this recall affects 413,151 vehicles. The issue lies with the rear-view camera system, which may fail to display an image at the start of each backing event. This failure is attributed to camera image rendering issues, camera link setup problems, and software system performance. The potential consequence of this defect is a limited rear visibility for the driver, increasing the risk of a crash. While the center display may show “Camera is temporarily not available,” other safety features like park assist warnings, rear automatic braking, and cross-traffic alerts are expected to remain functional and may automatically stop the vehicle if an obstacle is detected. Volvo Cars plans to remedy these vehicles with a new software release, expected by the end of the first quarter of 2026. This software upgrade will be performed on all affected vehicles. Owner notification for this recall is scheduled to begin around February 16, 2026.

For both recalls, customers who have previously paid for repairs related to these specific issues before receiving official notification may be eligible for reimbursement. They are advised to contact Volvo Customer Support and reference the respective recall action numbers (R10355 for the battery recall and R10333 for the camera recall) for more information on reimbursement procedures. Owners can also check if their vehicle is included in these recalls by visiting the NHTSA website or Volvo’s recall information portal, with VINs expected to be searchable by January 26, 2026, for the battery recall and February 16, 2026, for the camera recall.
