A late-night vehicle fire in Cascade, Maryland, resulted in injuries to the driver and total loss of the car, prompting an ongoing investigation into the cause. The incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. on May 2 along Pen Mar Road, where a red 1999 Jeep Cherokee caught fire while occupied.

According to officials, the driver, who was not identified, sustained burn injuries during the fire. Emergency responders from the Smithsburg Volunteer Fire Company arrived on the scene and were able to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes. No other occupants were reported in the vehicle at the time of the fire.
Fire investigators determined that the fire originated in the vehicle’s passenger compartment. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no arrests have been made. The total damage to the vehicle is estimated at $10,000.

Twenty firefighters responded to the single-alarm fire. The fire was initially discovered by the driver. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the Western Regional Office at 301-766-3888.
