Leesburg residents can gain insight into the local commemoration of the American Revolution’s semiquincentennial through an upcoming oral history presentation at the Thomas Balch Library. Kenneth Bancroft, a public historian based in Virginia, brings a specialized focus on the Colonial and Revolutionary War eras to his work. His public history project, “The Journals of Nicholas Cresswell,” meticulously recreates a daily diary kept by Englishman Nicholas Cresswell 250 years ago, enhanced with further research and resources. Bancroft’s previous contributions include articles and displays about Cresswell featured on the blog Emerging Revolutionary War and at the Thomas Balch Library. He also co-authored the brochure “Preserving Our Heritage: Loudoun’s Revolutionary War Court Records” for the Loudoun County Historic Records and Deeds office, demonstrating his deep engagement with local historical preservation. His involvement underscores a commitment to supporting and advancing the study of local history.
