According to a preliminary investigation, the crash began when a Jeep Cherokee, for reasons still under review, struck the rear of a dump truck while traveling southbound. The impact caused the Jeep to come to a stop in an active travel lane. Authorities believe the driver of the Jeep exited the vehicle and was then struck by a Subaru, which also collided with the dump truck.
The driver of the Jeep, a male whose identity is being withheld pending family notification, was pronounced dead at the scene. The dump truck’s driver, a 50-year-old man, his 51-year-old male passenger, and the Subaru’s 24-year-old female driver were all transported by ambulance to area hospitals for treatment of their injuries.
