Authorities are investigating a vehicle fire that occurred early Sunday morning in Hagerstown, Maryland. A black 2013 Kia Optima was found ablaze in the driveway of a residence on Merrbaugh Drive, prompting a swift response from local firefighters. The blaze was quickly brought under control, but preliminary findings have led officials to suspect arson.

The incident took place at approximately 3:08 a.m. on April 27, with the fire reportedly discovered by the vehicle’s owner, Anna Batko. No injuries were reported, and the Hagerstown Fire Department responded with eight firefighters to the scene. Crews extinguished the flames within two minutes of arrival. Damage to the vehicle is estimated at $6,000.
Investigators have identified the origin of the fire as the engine compartment and have classified the preliminary cause as incendiary, indicating that the fire was intentionally set. The car was parked in a residential area at the time of the incident, and no surrounding structures were affected.
