A Wicomico County man has been taken into custody in connection with a homicide reported Friday evening in Fruitland, Maryland. The Maryland State Police announced the arrest following a joint response by local and state law enforcement to a death investigation that remains ongoing.

Authorities identified the suspect as 40-year-old Brandt John Roberts of Fruitland. After consultation with the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office, Roberts was formally charged with first- and second-degree murder, along with additional related charges. He is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center, awaiting a hearing before a district court commissioner.
The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Albert Joseph Vacovsky III, also of Fruitland. Emergency responders pronounced Vacovsky deceased at the scene. The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on April 25, when Fruitland Police officers were dispatched to a residence on the 200 block of Camden Avenue in response to the reported death.

The Maryland State Police Homicide Unit is leading the investigation, with support from the Fruitland and Salisbury Police Departments. Crime scene technicians from the Maryland State Police Forensic Sciences Division are also assisting in the case. Authorities have not released additional details about a possible motive, and the investigation is ongoing.
