Washington County is offering free disposal options for residents impacted by a recent storm, with dumpsters placed at several drop-off sites and city-level cleanup support underway. We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Dumpsters will be available at three sites: the Hancock Convenience Center on Hess Road, the Smithsburg (Greensburg) Convenience Center on Bikle Road, and the Forty West Landfill on Earth Care Road. The convenience centers will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., while the landfill will accept storm debris Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The disposal service is limited to debris from residential property damage, and proof of Washington County residency may be required.
There will be no fees for residents using the service, which will remain available until May 7, or until funding for debris disposal runs out, whichever comes first. Items permitted include tree limbs, yard waste, and construction materials directly resulting from the storm.

We didn't pick our name by accident. While other outlets are proud to be government 'Partners,' we are proud to be exactly what our namesake requires: Free from government influence, and free from government censorship. We don't lock our news behind a paywall, will you help us keep it that way? If you're tired of news sweetened with confirmation bias that never questions the 'official story', consider becoming a monthly supporter. Just $5/month helps fund our local reporting, live election night coverage, and more.
Meanwhile, the City of Hagerstown’s Department of Public Works will assist residents within city limits by collecting limbs and brush. To qualify for pickup, branches must be no longer than six feet and should be placed along sidewalks, streets, or alleys. While yard waste bags or containers are optional, Public Works will not collect large trees, enter private property, or remove tree logs. Residents must request collection by contacting the department by phone, email, or through the city’s website under “Report a Concern.”
