We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Among the key items for discussion is the proposed purchase of pavement scanning services from StreetScan USA, Inc. for $207,770. This purchase would leverage a preexisting contract with Pierce County, Washington, allowing the County to bypass its own bid process and realize both cost and administrative savings. The data collected will be used to assess the condition of approximately 900 miles of road throughout the county, informing future maintenance priorities.
Another infrastructure-related agenda item involves awarding a $210,740 contract to STH, Inc. for the installation of cellular remote monitoring and control systems at various water pumping stations. This project, largely funded by a $200,000 EPA grant, is intended to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the county’s water infrastructure.

Public safety will also be a focus of the meeting, as the Board considers purchasing a fire training tower from WHP Trainingtowers at a cost of over $1.6 million. This acquisition will support training efforts at the Public Safety Training Center. The project is expected to benefit from savings tied to a cooperative purchase agreement previously established by Sourcewell.
Additional agenda items include a $123,436 award for grinder pumps and control panels, an agreement update with the National Park Service concerning Pen Mar Park, and a grant application for $270,000 to fund the Jail-Based Medication Assisted Treatment Program. Commissioners will also formally recognize Public Safety Telecommunicators Week with a proclamation.
The session is scheduled to end with a closed portion for personnel discussions and legal consultations, before reconvening for adjournment. Citizens interested in commenting may attend the meeting in person or submit feedback through official county channels.
