The seized items, which originated from China and were shipped via air parcel, were misdeclared as “Alloy Miniature Toys” in an attempt to avoid detection. Of the confiscated goods, CBP has already destroyed 953 replica firearms, 111 replica suppressors, and 92 abandoned suppressors. The agency notes that while these items may not be functional, their realistic appearance could result in dangerous misidentification, especially by law enforcement responding to public incidents.
Federal law mandates that imitation firearms include a blaze orange tip or stripe to distinguish them from real weapons. In California, further restrictions make public display of such items potentially subject to criminal charges. Since fiscal year 2022, nearly 2,900 replica firearms have been confiscated at U.S. ports of entry. CBP also works with external organizations, including trade enforcement groups and consumer safety agencies, to ensure non-compliant products do not reach consumers.
