U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers in Indianapolis intercepted two shipments last week containing counterfeit luxury jewelry valued at more than $5.2 million. The shipments, originating from China, included thousands of rings, bracelets, necklaces, and other accessories bearing trademarks of high-end designers such as Tiffany & Co., Cartier, Chanel, and Van Cleef & Arpels. The items were seized after being identified as counterfeit by CBP’s Centers of Excellence and Expertise.

The first shipment arrived on January 21, followed by a second on January 23. Upon inspection, CBP officers discovered a total of 2,172 pieces of counterfeit jewelry, including 1,439 charms with Tiffany & Co. logos, 496 rings labeled as Cartier and Van Cleef & Arpels, and numerous other pieces bearing luxury brand trademarks. The goods were deemed in violation of intellectual property rights and confiscated.

CBP officials emphasized the agency’s role in protecting consumers and the U.S. economy from counterfeit goods, which not only undermine legitimate businesses but also serve as a source of income for criminal enterprises. Authorities warn that counterfeit sales can fund further illicit activities and encourage consumers to be cautious when purchasing luxury items online, especially from third-party sellers. CBP recommends buying from authorized retailers and researching price discrepancies that may indicate counterfeit merchandise.
