The fire began around 9:51 p.m. and was traced to a malfunctioning dryer. According to investigators, the homeowner discovered the flames behind the appliance as they spread up the wall. An attempt to extinguish the fire using a portable fire extinguisher was unsuccessful due to the equipment being inoperable. The resident exited the home and contacted emergency services.

The Aberdeen Fire Department arrived quickly, bringing 35 firefighters to the scene. The crew was able to control the blaze within 10 minutes, limiting further spread, though the home sustained significant structural and content losses. The structure was valued at a $150,000 loss, with an additional $50,000 in personal property damage.
