“The Hagerstown Professional Firefighters are proud to issue our first Mayoral endorsement to William McIntire,” said Cory Lescalleet, IAFF Local 1605 President. “We felt confident that we will foster a strong working relationship with him and the new council”

The endorsement followed an evaluation process where union members reviewed candidate responses to a comprehensive questionnaire and attended a session with mayoral candidates. McIntire earned the union’s backing for his focus on public safety and his plans to address emergency services staffing challenges, which have become critical issues in Hagerstown.

“This is the first time since the creation of a Municipal PAC that the Hagerstown Professional Firefighters have endorsed a candidate for Mayor. This amplifies the belief that emergency services professionals have that William “Bill” McIntire is the right person to lead Hagerstown,” said Hagerstown Professional Firefighters Political Action Committee Chairman Allen Carpenter. “We look forward to working with him in the coming years to enhance public safety in Hagerstown.”

This endorsement, which is the first by the firefighters’ union in a mayoral race, highlights the organization’s commitment to advancing public safety in the city through a collaborative approach with elected officials. The union anticipates that, if elected, McIntire will work closely with emergency services personnel to enhance resources and support for Hagerstown’s public safety infrastructure.

The endorsement comes as part of the union’s mission to advocate for the needs of local emergency responders, many of whom have been central to improving emergency services in Hagerstown and Washington County.
