The Sharpsburg Volunteer Fire Company was the primary responding fire department. Six firefighters arrived at the scene following the report of the fire, which was discovered by a passerby. The team managed to control the blaze within five minutes of their arrival.
Initial assessments estimate the structural damage at approximately $10,000. Fortunately, there were no losses to the contents of the property. Notably, the residence did not have smoke alarms installed, and there were no fire alarm or sprinkler systems present at the time of the incident.
The fire originated on the front porch of the residence. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities urge anyone with information about the incident to contact the Western Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 301-766-3888.
