Among the distinguished individuals honored was Shradha Bista, a student from North Hagerstown High School, who secured the prestigious position of President for the 2024-2025 term of the Maryland Association of Student Councils (MASC). Bista’s achievement is noteworthy as she becomes only the second student from WCPS to hold this esteemed role in the organization’s 74-year history, following in the footsteps of Robert Pryor from North Hagerstown High School in 1961-1962. Bista is set to be formally sworn in as MASC President on May 18, marking a significant milestone in her academic journey.

Further accolades were bestowed upon WCPS students Dania Asif, Jessica Cline, Nissi Ellis, Elizabeth Dintaman, and Jeremy Fox for their exceptional performances at the 2024 Maryland Future Health Professionals (HOSA) competitions. Asif, Cline, and Ellis, collectively known as The Crazy Craniums, emerged victorious as the 2024 Maryland HOSA State Champions in the Anatomy Tournament, earning them a coveted spot in the upcoming National Anatomage Tournament at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Meanwhile, Dintaman and Fox clinched gold medals in the Nursing Assisting and Job Seeking Skills competitions, respectively, showcasing their prowess and dedication in their respective fields.
In the realm of robotics, South Hagerstown High School proudly claimed victory at the 2024 Maryland VEX State Championships, with two teams, The Rebellious Misfits and Sleeping Dragon, distinguishing themselves with their outstanding performances. Coached by Don Custer and Angela Nallo, these talented students demonstrated exceptional skills in robotics programming, securing awards such as the “Think” Award and the “Amaze” Award, affirming their status as leaders in the field.
Additionally, the achievements of Maggie Herbst from Cascade Elementary School and seven other WCPS students as Carson Scholars underscored the district’s commitment to academic excellence and community service. These students exemplify the values upheld by the Carson Scholars Fund, showcasing their leadership both inside and outside the classroom.
In the realm of sports, Smithsburg High School and North Hagerstown High School emerged as champions in various competitions, further highlighting the district’s diverse talents and achievements across different arenas.

Furthermore, the recognition of Pangborn Elementary School Principal Dr. Raegon Clutz as the 2024 MAESP National Distinguished Principal is a testament to the district’s commitment to fostering exemplary leadership and academic excellence at all levels.
