The meeting also highlighted achievements in education. Sixty-three WCPS teachers earned National Board Certification for the first time, and two teachers maintained their certification. This advanced credential recognizes highly skilled educators and promotes excellence in teaching. Additionally, Elizabeth Sutherland, a fifth-grade teacher at Fountain Rock Elementary School, was honored as the 2024 Outstanding Mathematics Elementary Teacher by the Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Sutherland’s recognition marks the second consecutive year a WCPS elementary educator has received this distinction.

The Board also recognized creativity among students through its first Winter Card Contest. Nearly 60 submissions were received, and two designs, created by Barbara Ingram School for the Arts students Minhal Imtiaz and Kelly Nguyen, were selected for use on the official WCPS holiday card.
