SMITHSBURG, MD News (2/29/2024) – Deputy State Fire Marshals are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying an individual connected to a recent vacant house fire in Washington County. According to Washington County Fire Calls, CO7, CO9, FA2, CO16, FA4, ET7, T09, ET16, FATRK2, RSQ10, R79, and SAF100 responded to the fire.

Last Wednesday, emergency responders, including the Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Company and neighboring departments, rushed to extinguish a blaze at 23266 Fruit Tree Lane in Smithsburg. The property, confirmed to be unoccupied, was engulfed in flames at approximately 8:40 a.m.

Following preliminary investigations, authorities have acquired an image of an individual believed to have been in the vicinity before or after the incident. Investigators are keen to engage with this individual to gather any pertinent information they might possess regarding the event.
