The Washington County Democratic Central Committee (WCDCC) is the official local arm of the Maryland Democratic Party. The committee is comprised of elected volunteers who serve four-year terms to manage party operations within Washington County.
Duties and Responsibilities
The WCDCC operates under the bylaws of the Maryland Democratic Party and the Maryland annotated code. Its primary legal and operational duties include:
- Candidate Nomination: Identifying and supporting Democratic candidates for local and state offices.
- Vacancy Appointments: Submitting formal recommendations to the Governor to fill vacancies in the Maryland General Assembly or on the local Board of Elections when they occur.
- Voter Registration: Organizing and executing voter registration drives and maintaining local party rolls.
- Election Support: Managing the local party headquarters, coordinating poll watchers, and distributing sample ballots during early voting and on Election Day.
- Fundraising: Raising funds to support local campaign efforts and the maintenance of the county party infrastructure.
Composition and Election
- Term Length: 4 Years.
- Election Cycle: Members are elected during the Gubernatorial Primary Election (scheduled for 2026).
- Eligibility: Must be a registered Democratic voter residing in Washington County.
