Baltimore Man Indicted in Federal Firearm Case as Part of Nationwide Initiative

Baltimore, Maryland – A federal jury has indicted Larry Arntay Thompson, Jr., 25, of Baltimore, on charges of illegally possessing a firearm and ammunition as a convicted felon. This indictment is part of the FBI’s Summer Heat 2.0 initiative, a broad effort aimed at combating violent crime across the nation. The charges were announced by U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes for the District of Maryland, FBI Baltimore Field Office Special Agent in Charge Jimmy Paul, and U.S. Marshal for the District of Maryland Clinton J. Fuchs.

The indictment stems from an arrest on July 29, 2026, when law enforcement apprehended Thompson on an existing warrant for first-degree assault and firearm offenses. During a search following his arrest, officers discovered a loaded handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine and 13 rounds of live ammunition. Further investigation revealed that the firearm had been reported stolen in 2024. Due to a previous felony conviction, Thompson is legally prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition. He faces a potential maximum penalty of 15 years in federal prison if convicted. Federal sentencing guidelines and other statutory factors will be considered by a federal district judge when determining the final sentence, which is typically less than the maximum penalty.

The FBI’s Summer Heat initiative, now in its second year, is a comprehensive strategy designed to suppress violent crime by intensifying resource allocation and collaborating with federal, state, and local partners. This offensive involves executing federal warrants on individuals involved in violent criminal activity and dismantling gangs across the country, with the ultimate goal of enhancing community safety nationwide.
