A federal grand jury has indicted Marquis Thomas, 34, of Baltimore, on one count of possession of a firearm and ammunition by a prohibited person, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland. The charges stem from a domestic-violence incident that occurred on October 30, 2025, involving a handgun and allegations of assault.
The indictment details that Thomas is accused of knowingly possessing a Hi-Point JCP .45 Auto Pistol loaded with nine rounds of ammunition. Public filings indicate that the firearm’s serial number was obliterated. As a convicted felon, Thomas was legally prohibited from possessing firearms at the time of the alleged offense. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, in conjunction with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the Baltimore Police Department (BPD), announced the indictment.
Law enforcement officers from the BPD responded to a call regarding a domestic assault involving a firearm on the date of the incident. Upon arrival at the residence, the victim reportedly informed officers that Thomas had left the premises. The victim then led officers into the living room, where a handgun was found on the couch. According to the victim’s account detailed in public filings, Thomas had allegedly struck her in the face three times before pointing a gun at her and making a threat.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland highlighted its commitment to partnering with federal, local, and state agencies, as well as community organizations in Baltimore, to reduce violent crime and enhance public safety. This collaborative approach aims to ensure that federal resources are effectively utilized to address firearm violence within intimate-partner relationships. Initiatives like Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and Project Safe Home are central to these efforts, bringing together law enforcement and communities to curb gun violence. Project Safe Home, in particular, focuses on reducing domestic violence and preventing escalation to lethal violence by targeting offenders with a history of domestic violence who use or possess handguns.
The investigation and subsequent indictment underscore the ongoing efforts to prevent firearms from falling into the hands of individuals who are legally prohibited from possessing them. These actions are intended to help mitigate violence and protect community members, with a particular focus on supporting victims of intimate-partner violence. The U.S. Attorney’s Office commended the ATF and BPD for their cooperation and work on this investigation.
