The Hagerstown Police Department announced on July 10, 2026, the arrest of Michael Timothy Wilder in connection with the homicide investigation that began on July 5, 2026. Wilder, 38, of Hagerstown, was apprehended without incident in the 900 block of the Dual Highway. He has been charged with First-Degree Murder and related offenses and is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center. The investigation into the death of Dalonte Dametrius Young began in the early morning hours of Sunday, July 5, 2026, when officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim in the first block of East Antietam Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Hagerstown Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit has been leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities have indicated that the incident is isolated and poses no ongoing threat to the public.

Law enforcement officials have expressed gratitude for the assistance provided by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and the United States Marshals Service, specifically the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, in apprehending Wilder. The Maryland Criminal Intelligence Network (MCIN) has provided partial funding for this investigation. MCIN is a component of the Governor’s Office Crime Prevention and Policy Program, dedicated to identifying, disrupting, and dismantling criminal networks involved in drug distribution, violent crimes, human trafficking, and other serious offenses. The network aims to reduce violent crime through collaborative efforts and information sharing to improve the investigation and prosecution of offenders.
