Hagerstown, MD – The Hagerstown Police Department is actively investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning, July 5, 2026. The Hagerstown Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Unit has taken the lead on this case. Authorities were dispatched to the location at approximately 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. Upon their arrival, officers found the adult male, who was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. The department has not yet released further details regarding the identity of the victim or the circumstances surrounding the shooting, citing the need to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.
Law enforcement officials are urging anyone who may possess information pertinent to this case to come forward. Individuals with knowledge of the incident are encouraged to contact Detective Jason Ackerman of the Hagerstown Police Department. He can be reached by phone at (301) 790-3700, extension 242. Alternatively, anonymous tips can be submitted via email to crimetip@hagerstownpd.org. The police department has indicated that additional information will be disseminated as it becomes available and when it will not jeopardize their investigative efforts.
