The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland has announced a series of immigration-related prosecutions aimed at combating illegal immigration and criminal activity within the Baltimore area. These actions, part of the Department of Justice’s broader “Operation Take Back America,” involve charges against individuals connected to drug trafficking organizations and those who have illegally re-entered the United States after prior removals.
Recent indictments have targeted several individuals suspected of involvement in a drug trafficking organization operating in the Baltimore metropolitan area. According to court documents, beginning in March 2025 and continuing through October 2025, members of this organization allegedly conspired to distribute significant quantities of cocaine mixtures. These prosecutions highlight the ongoing efforts by federal law enforcement to dismantle criminal enterprises that pose a threat to community safety.

In addition to drug-related charges, the office has also pursued cases involving individuals who have illegally re-entered the United States. One such case involved Vanessa Yalixa Munoz-Baque, a citizen of Ecuador, who was sentenced to six months in federal prison for illegally re-entering the U.S. after a previous removal in August 2023. Authorities apprehended Munoz-Baque in Frederick, Maryland, following her arrest for attempted murder, revealing her continued unlawful presence in the country.
Another individual, Desiderio Eliceo Perez Gonzalez, a citizen of Guatemala, pleaded guilty to illegal entry charges. Perez Gonzalez initially entered the U.S. illegally in 2016 through Texas and was later apprehended in Maryland in March 2026. Similarly, Roberto Lopez-Perez, a citizen of Honduras, was indicted on illegal re-entry charges after being encountered by law enforcement in Talbot County, Maryland, in March 2026. Court documents indicate that Lopez-Perez knowingly re-entered the U.S. without authorization from immigration officials.
These prosecutions underscore the Department of Justice’s commitment, through Operation Take Back America, to address what it describes as the “invasion of illegal immigration” and the elimination of cartels and transnational criminal organizations. The initiative aims to enhance community protection by targeting individuals involved in violent crime and other illegal activities. U.S. Attorney Kelly O. Hayes commended the collaborative efforts of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE-ERO) and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) in these investigations, as well as the prosecutors handling the cases.
