The Leesburg Police Department has announced the successful graduation of three of its officers from the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy (NVCJA). Officers Joshua Cella, David Coullahan, and Dalton Schmidt successfully completed Session 154 of the academy, culminating in a graduation ceremony held in Ashburn, Virginia. Their completion of this rigorous program signifies their readiness to serve the Leesburg community in law enforcement roles.
The NVCJA training program is designed to equip recruits with essential skills for modern policing. The curriculum covers a broad range of subjects critical for law enforcement professionals, including Virginia criminal and traffic laws, firearms proficiency, defensive tactics, and emergency vehicle operations. Additionally, officers receive instruction in criminal investigations, crisis intervention, ethical conduct, and community-oriented policing strategies. This comprehensive training aims to foster professionalism, accountability, and a strong commitment to public service among graduating officers.

During their time at the academy, two Leesburg officers received special recognition for their exceptional performance. Officer Dalton Schmidt was awarded Second Place in the Excellence in Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Award, acknowledging his superior skills in operating emergency vehicles. Officer David Coullahan was honored with Second Place in the Director’s Award for Academic Excellence, a testament to his outstanding academic achievements throughout the training session.
Following their graduation, these officers are now transitioning into the field training program. This next phase of their development will involve working alongside seasoned officers, applying the knowledge and skills acquired at the academy in practical, real-world scenarios. This hands-on experience is crucial for their continued growth and integration into the Leesburg Police Department’s operational structure.
