Captain Spano’s extensive career in law enforcement began in 1998 as a dispatcher before he entered the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy in 2000. He officially became a sworn police officer in 2001 and served various communities in Pennsylvania for nine years, with additional service in that state between 2020 and 2022. His career path then led him to a large city in South Florida in 2008, where he played a role in establishing a new police department and was promoted to sergeant in 2014. After twelve years in South Florida, he returned to Northern Virginia in 2020. Prior to joining the Leesburg Police Department, he held leadership positions, including captain and patrol operations commander, with university police departments in Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia.
His tenure with the Leesburg Police Department began in 2024, where he has served in roles such as master police officer, patrol watch commander, and most recently, lieutenant of the Resource Management Division. Captain Spano holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Widener University and has completed training at the Delaware County Municipal Police Academy, the Northern Virginia Criminal Justice Training Academy, and the FBI National Academy. The Leesburg Police Department is dedicated to providing high-quality law enforcement services through proactive policing, community engagement, and a commitment to excellence, aiming to improve public safety and the overall quality of life for Leesburg residents, businesses, and visitors.
