The Town of Shepherdstown is actively seeking community input on a proposal to create a temporary pedestrian-focused plaza around and behind the Historic Market House. This initiative, known as the Market House Plaza concept, aims to boost the liveliness, walkability, and overall community engagement within the downtown area. The town is considering a pilot program, which would last for approximately three months, before any decisions are made regarding long-term or permanent investments in the project.

The town has already begun engaging residents and stakeholders in the discussion. On May 21, a Community Conversation event was held, drawing over 50 attendees including residents and business owners. This event provided an opportunity for the community to learn about the initial concepts for the plaza and to share their thoughts, ideas, and any concerns they might have.

For individuals who could not attend the initial meeting or those who wish to offer further feedback, the Town of Shepherdstown continues to welcome public input. Residents can submit their comments, suggestions, and reflections on the proposed plaza concept through an online feedback form provided by the Town. The feedback form can be downloaded, completed, and then emailed to comments@shepherdstown.gov. Community perspectives are expected to be a significant factor as discussions progress regarding the potential pilot project.
