Hagerstown, MD – City officials, including Mayor William McIntire and Councilmembers Erika Bell and Sean Flaherty, are scheduled to participate in Memorial Day observances on Monday to honor the sacrifices of members of the U.S. armed forces. The events will involve wreath-laying ceremonies at several significant memorials throughout the city.
The day’s commemorations will commence with the city’s participation in the Morris Frock American Legion Post 42’s annual Memorial Day program. This ceremony, which includes a wreath-laying, is set to take place at 1 p.m. in front of the Washington County Circuit Courthouse, located at the intersection of Summit Avenue and West Washington Street. Mayor McIntire is expected to deliver opening remarks at this event, after which he will join Councilmembers Bell and Flaherty in laying a wreath on behalf of the city administration.

Following the courthouse ceremony, the city leaders will proceed to lay additional wreaths at various memorials across Hagerstown. These locations include the memorial monument situated near the entrance to Rose Hill Cemetery along Memorial Boulevard, the Vietnam War Veterans Monument on South Walnut Street close to City Park, the Medal of Honor Triangle on Jonathan Street, and the Korean War Veterans Memorial positioned along Potomac Avenue at the Mealey Parkway traffic island. The series of dedications will conclude at the Bloom Park Spanish-American War Memorial on East North Avenue. The City of Hagerstown has expressed its deep appreciation for all veterans and their families, acknowledging the profound sacrifices made for the nation, not only on Memorial Day but also throughout the year.
