For individuals aged 16 and older, serving as an election judge offers an opportunity to contribute to their communities while earning compensation. These essential roles involve assisting voters with check-in procedures, providing guidance, answering questions, and helping to ensure a seamless voting experience. A special incentive is being offered to those who have previously served as election judges, providing a one-time bonus payment of $100. The SBE emphasizes the critical need for a sufficient number of election judges to address potential last-minute cancellations and to begin recruitment efforts for the subsequent 2026 General Election. Applications for election judge positions can be submitted through the SBE’s online portal or by contacting local Boards of Elections.
Younger Marylanders, between the ages of 14 and 15, are invited to participate as Election Day Pages. These student volunteers will work under the supervision of Chief Election Judges, providing support to both election judges and voters on Election Day. This role offers a valuable opportunity for students to gain practical experience in civic engagement and may also qualify for service-learning credit hours applicable to their school requirements. Interested students can apply through the same online form or by reaching out to their local Boards of Elections.
Furthermore, state and county government employees who commit to serving as election judges may be eligible to receive administrative leave, with additional benefits potentially available through their respective employers. The SBE underscores that election judges and pages are fundamental to the successful execution of elections and the robustness of Maryland’s democratic framework. Their dedication ensures that all voters can cast their ballots with confidence and that every vote is accurately, fairly, and securely tallied, thereby upholding the integrity of the electoral system. For younger participants, the election page role serves as an introduction to the intricacies of the election process and the importance of civic participation.
