The graduating class is comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds, including military veterans, paramedics, and college graduates. Notably, six of the new troopers were previously Maryland State Police cadets, demonstrating a clear career path within the organization. The academy also highlighted the academic pursuits of its candidates, with nearly 60% of the class participating in an Associate of Applied Science Degree program offered in conjunction with Frederick Community College. Earlier this year, the 160th Academy Class distinguished themselves at the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, raising over $8,900 and earning recognition for the most money raised by an academy class.
The journey to becoming a Maryland State Trooper is a demanding one. Candidates undergo 28 weeks of rigorous training at the Maryland State Police Academy. Following graduation, they are required to complete an additional two months of field training, where they apply their newly acquired skills under the guidance of experienced officers. The graduation ceremony will be attended by the graduates’ families and friends, as well as fellow members of the Maryland State Police and representatives from other law enforcement agencies, recognizing the collective effort and support involved in this achievement.
