Approximately 9,546 ProRider bicycle helmets are being recalled due to significant safety concerns, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). The recalled helmets, which include models such as Economy Bicycle Helmet, Bike Helmet with turn ring, Bike Helmet Black Foam, BMX Helmet, and Toddler Bike Helmets, were found to violate mandatory federal safety standards for bicycle helmets. These violations mean the helmets may not adequately protect users in the event of a crash, posing a serious risk of head injury, serious injury, or even death.

The helmets fail to meet requirements for impact attenuation, positional stability, labeling, and certification. Consumers are urged to immediately stop using the recalled helmets. ProRider, Inc., the importer based in Kent, Washington, is offering a full refund to consumers. To receive this refund, customers must first destroy the helmet by cutting its straps. A photograph of the destroyed helmet should then be sent to ProRider via email at org@prorider.com.
The recalled helmets were sold nationwide by distributors including the Wisconsin Bike Federation, Kiwanis Club, and Foster Love, as well as online at ProRider.com. Sales occurred between June 2022 and May 2023, with prices ranging from $5 to $18. The helmets were available in various colors, including blue, green, red, black, and purple. Specific model numbers, manufacturing dates in MM/YYYY format, and serial numbers can be found on a label located inside each helmet. For instance, the Economy Bicycle Helmet, model BG-W/10BICYCLE, was manufactured in December 2022 in size S/M and April 2022 in size L/XL. The BMX Helmet, model SPORT HELMET, with an extra-small size, was manufactured in September 2022. The Toddler Bike Helmet, model BM-5TODDLER, also manufactured in September 2022, has no listed serial numbers.
Consumers with questions or who need assistance with the recall process can contact ProRider directly at 800-642-3123 between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Pacific Time, Monday through Friday. Alternatively, consumers can reach out via email at org@prorider.com or visit http://www.prorider.com and navigate to the “Recall” section at the top of the page for more detailed information. While no incidents or injuries have been reported in connection with these helmets, the violation of safety standards underscores the potential danger they pose.
The CPSC emphasizes that federal law prohibits the sale of products subject to a Commission-ordered or voluntary recall. Consumers are encouraged to report any dangerous products or product-related injuries on http://www.SaferProducts.gov.
