Approximately 19,890 Trek and Electra electric bicycles are being recalled due to a potential fall hazard, according to a notice from the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The recall specifically affects model year 2026 Trek FX+ 1, FX+ 1S, and Electra Townie Go! and Townie Go! S electric bicycles sold between April and October 2025. The issue stems from rear wheel bolts that, if torqued improperly, can break. This breakage could lead to the rear wheel separating from the bicycle, creating a risk of falls for riders.

The recalled models include the Trek FX+ 1 Midstep, FX+ 1S Midstep, FX+ 1 Stepover, and FX+ 1S Stepover, as well as the Electra Townie Go! Step Thru and Townie Go! S Step Thru electric bicycles. These bicycles were sold nationwide through Trek stores and authorized retailers, as well as online. The affected bicycles feature black rear wheel bolts that attach the motor to the rear frame. Consumers can identify the Trek models by the “TREK” branding on the downtube and “FX+” on the top tube, while Electra models are marked with “townie” on the downtube, “electra” on the seat stay, and “go!” on the chain guard. The bicycles were sold at a price point of approximately $2,100.

Trek has received seven reports of the rear wheel bolts breaking on these electric bicycles, though no injuries have been reported in connection with these incidents. To address the hazard, Trek is offering a free repair service for affected consumers. Owners of the recalled bicycles are advised to immediately stop using their e-bikes and contact an authorized Trek or Electra dealer to schedule a free replacement of the original black rear wheel bolts with new silver ones. Consumers can find their nearest dealer by visiting the Trek website and using the store finder tool.

As an incentive for participating in the recall, Trek will provide consumers with a $10 in-store credit, which can be used toward any Trek, Electra, or Bontrager merchandise. This credit is valid until December 31, 2026. For more information or to initiate the recall process, consumers can contact Trek toll-free at 800-373-4594, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time, or visit the company’s website at trekbikes.com and navigate to the “Recalls” section.
