Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) has announced that all schools and administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, January 29, 2026, due to ongoing road and sidewalk clearing efforts following recent weather events. While progress is being made, conditions are not yet suitable for the safe return of students. WCPS employees have been designated as “Code Orange” for the day.
The school district is actively working on contingency plans to resume classes on Friday, January 30, 2026. This effort includes evaluating transportation routes and arrangements. It is anticipated that approximately 200 students across the county may be affected by potential changes to bus stop locations. The transportation team is exploring alternate pickup points that will allow buses to get as close as possible to current stops, aiming to minimize disruption. Further details regarding the school day and any finalized transportation adjustments are expected to be communicated late on Thursday afternoon.
