The City of Frederick announced Monday that District 4 Council member Scott Lasher has resigned from his position, effective immediately. The resignation comes as Lasher cited health reasons as the primary factor in his decision to step down from the City Council. He had taken office in December 2025.

In a statement, Lasher expressed that the decision was made after careful consideration and on the advice of his doctors. He conveyed gratitude to the residents who entrusted him with their representation, his colleagues on the Council, and the city staff. Lasher indicated that while the choice was difficult, he believes it is the correct one for his health, his family, and the constituents of District 4. He also expressed hope for the continued progress of the City of Frederick.
Council President Cesar Diaz acknowledged Lasher’s service to the community and the dedication he brought to his role. Diaz stated that the Council respects Lasher’s decision and wishes him strength. He also assured residents that the Council will maintain its work with stability and professionalism, remaining focused on the city’s advancement and responsive governance. Mayor Michael O’Connor also expressed his gratitude for Lasher’s commitment and expressed his support for Lasher and his family as he focuses on his health.
The City Charter provides a framework for addressing vacancies on the City Council, and this process will be followed to ensure continued representation for the residents of District 4. Further details regarding this process are expected to be shared at a later time. The City has requested that the privacy of Council member Lasher and his family be respected during this period.
