The Frederick City Council has officially approved new district boundaries in a unanimous vote during its public meeting on February 20, 2025. This decision follows the passage of Resolution 24-20 in September 2024, which established legislative districts to improve local representation. The redistricting process aimed to ensure fair representation and enhance community engagement in local government. To achieve this, the city enlisted the consulting firm HaystaqDNA to develop draft maps based on population data and demographics. The City Council then gathered public input through a community survey, a Town Hall meeting, and an online comment period before finalizing the boundaries.

During the meeting, City Council President Katie Nash highlighted a letter from the ACLU, which praised the districting plan for creating greater opportunities for BIPOC communities. The letter emphasized that the new districts reflect the city’s growing diversity, align with the Voting Rights Act, and promote equitable governance.
