Beginning February 9, drivers will no longer be able to use traditional meters for on-street parking. Instead, payments will be exclusively processed through the ParkMobile mobile application. This app allows users to conveniently pay for parking using their smartphones, offering multiple payment methods for added flexibility. The city is encouraging all residents, employees, and visitors who frequent downtown Frederick to download the ParkMobile app in advance of the transition to ensure a seamless experience. New signage will be installed throughout downtown to guide users, detailing parking zones and payment instructions. Comprehensive information will also be accessible on the City of Frederick’s official website.

The phased removal of the physical meters will commence with side streets in the downtown area. Market Street and Patrick Street, which experience higher traffic volumes, are slated to be the last streets to have their meters removed. This approach is intended to minimize disruption to drivers in these busy corridors.

For individuals who prefer to pay for parking with cash, this option will still be available. All five city-owned parking garages will continue to accept both cash and credit card payments, ensuring accessibility for all users.

In conjunction with the move to a fully digital on-street payment system, the hours for on-street parking enforcement will be extended. Enforcement will now take place from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., an increase of one hour from the current schedule. These updated hours will be clearly indicated on all relevant parking signage.

Residents and visitors with inquiries or those seeking further details are directed to the City of Frederick’s website, specifically the parking section, or can contact the Parking Department directly by phone.
