FREDERICK, MD News (4/26/2024) – On February 21, 2024, officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to a reported robbery in the area of South Carroll Street & Carroll Creek. Upon arrival, officers identified a female victim who had sustained significant injuries.

According to the victim, she had parked her vehicle along the street and was exiting to pay the parking meter when another vehicle stopped nearby. The driver exited their vehicle and attempted to steal the victim’s purse, initiating a struggle during which the victim was assaulted and threatened with a firearm. The suspect managed to steal the victim’s car keys before fleeing the scene. Witnesses provided descriptions of both the suspect and her vehicle to the responding officers.
Detective Stephen Radtke with the Major Crimes Unit was assigned as the lead investigator for the case. During the course of the investigation, Det. Radtke obtained video surveillance footage capturing the suspect and victim in a business prior to the robbery. The footage showed the suspect had followed the victim until she arrived on South Carroll Street.

With assistance from the DC Metro Police Department, Detective Radtke successfully identified the suspect as Nola Ann Michelle Bens (DOB 02-26-1965) of Washington, DC. On March 15, 2024, a warrant was issued for her arrest, charging her with Armed Robbery, Robbery, 2nd Degree Assault, and Theft.
On April 15, 2024, Nola Bens was arrested in Alexandria, Virginia by the US Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force and subsequently extradited back to Maryland on April 23, 2024. She is currently being held at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
