The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced that DR Power Equipment is reannouncing and expanding a previous recall of its walk-behind and tow-behind leaf vacuums. This expanded recall is due to a laceration hazard, as components can break loose or debris can pierce the unit, leading to the ejection of materials. The recall now includes additional models of leaf vacuums that were not part of the initial recall in May 2024.

The hazard identified involves pieces from the recalled leaf vacuums coming loose internally or debris piercing the chute. This can result in material being ejected from the unit, posing a laceration risk to users and bystanders. DR Power Equipment has received 46 reports of loose pieces being ejected from the units, though no injuries have been reported to date. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the affected leaf vacuums.
The recall encompasses specific models of walk-behind leaf vacuums, as well as tow-behind leaf vacuums designated as LL3 and LL2. Model numbers for these units can be found on the product itself. For walk-behind vacuums, the model number is located on the front right side behind the wheel. For tow-behind vacuums, it is situated on the impeller housing next to the engine. The DR Power Equipment logo is printed on the motor housing. Approximately 60,250 units have been sold in the United States, with an additional 1,023 sold in Canada.
The remedy offered by DR Power Equipment is a free repair kit. This kit includes a metal outer shield designed to be bolted onto the existing chute of the recalled leaf vacuums. Consumers can contact DR Power Equipment for detailed information and assistance with the repair process. Even consumers who participated in the original recall are urged to contact the company again to obtain the new remedy. The leaf vacuums were sold nationwide at independent power equipment stores and online at drpower.com between September 2014 and June 2025, with prices ranging from $1,300 to $4,000.
