The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of Primark Water Balloon Pumps due to a risk of injury. According to the CPSC, the water balloon pumps can generate excessive pressure during use, leading to product rupture and posing a hazard to users and bystanders.

The recall affects approximately 3,170 Primark Water Balloon Pumps, sold in blue and pink. These pumps are designed to resemble a water bottle with a spray head. Consumers can identify the recalled product by looking for the product code 5252801, which is printed on the price tag found on the back of the pump bottle. The affected products were imported by Primark US Corp. of Boston, Massachusetts, and manufactured in China.
The recalled water balloon pumps were sold at Primark stores located in the northeastern United States, as well as in Florida, Maryland, and Illinois. They were available for purchase between March 2023 and July 2023 for approximately $6.
Primark has received two reports within the United States of the water balloon pumps rupturing, which resulted in two reports of cuts to users’ hands and fingers. Internationally, nine similar reports of rupture and cuts have been documented.
Consumers who have purchased these recalled water balloon pumps are strongly advised to immediately stop using them. To receive a full refund, customers should return the product to any Primark store. The refund will be issued in the original form of payment. For those seeking more information or assistance with the recall process, Primark can be contacted at 617-946-3236, Monday through Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET. Alternatively, consumers can visit http://www.primark.com/recall or navigate to the “Recall” section at the bottom of the http://www.primark.com website. A Primark Contact Us form is also available for those who wish to request a call from customer service.
This recall falls under Recall Number 26-124. Consumers can report dangerous products or product-related injuries on http://www.SaferProducts.gov. The CPSC works to protect the public from unreasonable risks of injury associated with consumer products and has been instrumental in reducing product-related injuries for over 50 years.
