Dominec Proctor, a 28-year-old resident of Glenn Dale, Maryland, has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Nyah Hairston. According to information from the Maryland State Police, Proctor is currently being held without bond in Virginia, facing unrelated charges. The incident involving Hairston occurred shortly before 10:45 p.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024. Maryland State Police troopers responded to a report of a vehicle off the roadway on southbound I-495, near Landover Road. Upon arrival, they discovered a gray Nissan Versa in a ditch with Hairston, the driver, unresponsive in her seat. Troopers had to break the vehicle’s window to gain access and extract her. Emergency medical services provided aid at the scene before transporting her to the University of Maryland Capital Region Trauma Center, where she was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit, with assistance from the FBI Baltimore Field Office’s Cross Border Violent Crime Task Force, the Metropolitan Police Department, and the Office of the State’s Attorney in Prince George’s County, gathered information that led them to identify Proctor as the suspect in Hairston’s death. An arrest warrant was subsequently obtained, and Proctor was charged. The Maryland State Police stated that Hairston’s case is the third road rage murder they have investigated since 2022.

Authorities are also continuing to seek public assistance in their investigations into the deaths of Charles Marks and Delonte Hicks, two other victims of fatal road rage shootings. A total reward of $60,000 is being offered by Maryland State Police, in partnership with the FBI, for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for these two incidents. A reward of $30,000 is available for information related to each case, and callers can choose to remain anonymous.
