According to DHS, Singh entered the U.S. via the southern border in 2022 and was subsequently released into the country. ICE lodged the immigration detainer for Singh on October 22, following his arrest by local authorities. He faces charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and driving under the influence. Dash camera footage reportedly captured the crash.
This incident is highlighted by DHS as part of a concerning pattern involving individuals in the country illegally operating commercial vehicles on American highways. Earlier in the week, ICE reportedly lodged a separate detainer for another individual in the country illegally who was driving a semi-truck and was involved in a fatal accident that claimed another driver’s life. DHS asserts that these events directly endanger public safety.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security states that its law enforcement agencies are actively working to protect communities from similar tragedies. For individuals who have been victims of crimes committed by individuals in the country illegally, the Victims of Immigration Crime Engagement (VOICE) Office offers support.
