Administered by the Maryland Department of Labor, the EARN Maryland program is recognized nationally for its effectiveness, reportedly generating $18 in economic return for every $1 invested. Under the current administration, the program has a track record of success, having assisted over 3,500 individuals in securing employment and upskilling nearly 5,500 workers. The Department of Labor plans to further expand its reach by investing in new partnerships early in 2026, continuing its efforts to bolster Maryland’s workforce and economy.
The latest round of awards has been distributed to 19 entities, including community colleges, local workforce development boards, and non-profit organizations. These organizations will be responsible for delivering occupational training and providing necessary supportive services to participants. Crucially, these awardees are collaborating with hundreds of employers across Maryland to ensure that the training programs align directly with industry needs and lead to tangible career opportunities.
The training will prepare Marylanders for a range of in-demand, high-skill professions. These include roles within the cybersecurity, automotive repair and maintenance, transportation and logistics, biotechnology, manufacturing, skilled trades, and water and solar energy industries. A significant portion of the funding, over $600,000, is specifically earmarked for the healthcare sector. This allocation is intended to train nearly 200 individuals for vital positions such as certified nursing assistants and certified pharmacy technicians, addressing critical needs within the healthcare system. A complete list of awardees is available on the Maryland Department of Labor website.
