The Planning Commission’s responsibilities are multifaceted, involving the review and approval of critical documents such as subdivision plats, forest conservation plans, and site and development plans. Beyond these direct approvals, the commission also provides essential advisory services to the Board of County Commissioners. This advisory capacity includes offering recommendations on important matters like rezoning requests, amendments to ordinance texts, and the adoption of various land use regulations and programs. Furthermore, the Planning Commission takes the lead in the development of the County’s Comprehensive Plan, a crucial document that is updated every ten years and establishes the long-term and short-term planning objectives for Washington County.
Residents of Washington County who are interested in contributing to the county’s future through land use and planning decisions are strongly encouraged to submit their applications. To apply, interested individuals should visit the Boards & Commissions section on the Washington County website or complete the designated Application Form. For further details or inquiries regarding the application process, prospective applicants can contact Dawn L. Marcus, County Clerk, by phone at 240-313-2204 or via email at dlmarcus@washco-md.net.
