The responsibility for managing these crucial compliance tests falls to the Washington County Division of Emergency Services. This initiative will encompass all equipment belonging to Washington County, the City of Hagerstown, and every volunteer fire and rescue corporation within the county. Annually, these inspections will involve approximately 200,000 feet of fire hose, ground ladders for 53 engine vehicles and 8 ladder trucks, pumps for 53 engine vehicles, and the testing of 8 aerial ladders. The financial commitment for these services is allocated through the Washington County Board of County Commissioners and is integrated into the Division of Emergency Services’ operating budget for the fiscal year 2026. These rigorous inspection and testing protocols are designed to ensure that all equipment used by the county’s emergency personnel adheres to the stringent compliance standards set forth by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
This investment in regular equipment maintenance is critical for the safety of both the first responders who rely on this gear and the residents of Washington County who depend on their swift and effective response. By ensuring that all hoses, pumps, ladders, and aerial devices are in optimal working condition, the county is reinforcing its commitment to providing reliable emergency services. Residents can be assured that their fire departments and rescue squads are equipped with well-maintained and compliant apparatus, which is paramount during critical incidents.
