The City of Frederick is set to hold its Democratic Primary Election on Tuesday, September 9, 2025. All registered Democrats within the city limits are eligible to cast their vote. For those registered as Republican, all candidates are unopposed and will automatically advance to the General Election, meaning no Republican primary will be held.

Frederick has opened city-only voter registration for residents regardless of citizenship status, providing an avenue for those not registered with Frederick County to participate in local elections. Those already registered with Frederick County are automatically eligible to vote in City elections and do not need to complete a separate city-only registration.

In preparation for the elections, the Frederick City Council unanimously approved new district boundaries on February 20, 2025. These revised boundaries are intended to enhance local representation, with each of the five approved districts now represented by a single Council Member. In addition to these district representatives, two at-large Council Members will continue to serve the entire City. Residents can determine their specific district by utilizing an interactive district map available on the City’s election page, which allows users to search for their address and identify their assigned district. A downloadable PDF version of the 2025 Election District Map is also provided for those who prefer a static view.

For individuals seeking information about federal, state, and county elections, the Frederick County Board of Elections can be contacted directly. Their office is located at 8490 Progress Drive, Suite 300, Frederick, MD 21701, and they can be reached by phone at 301-600-VOTE (8683). The City’s election page also provides a comprehensive list of candidates running for Mayor and City Council, including their contact information and links to their campaign finance reports.

Residents who prefer to vote by mail must ensure their ballots are postmarked by the September 9th deadline. These mail-in ballots must then be received by September 12, 2025. To accommodate voters, secure ballot drop boxes will be accessible until 8 p.m. on Election Day. These drop boxes are located at multiple sites across the city, including The Bourne Building (355 Montevue Lane), Hillcrest Commons (1150 Orchard Terrace), Talley Recreation Center (121 North Bentz Street), the Housing Authority Office (209 Madison Street), Governor Thomas Johnson High School (1501 North Market Street), and Frederick Community College (7932 Opossumtown Pike).
