The issue stems from a potential deviation in the production process at the supplier, Farasis Energy (Ganzhou) Co. Ltd., a China-based manufacturer. This deviation may have resulted in the screw connection of the busbar within the high-voltage battery not meeting current production specifications. Specifically, the screw head might not sit flush on the busbar, which could cause intermittent interruptions in power transmission. Without prior warning to the driver, this could lead to an unexpected loss of power. While the recall is due to a potential safety risk, Mercedes-Benz has indicated that a fire hazard has been ruled out following detailed analysis.
The affected vehicles include 179 units of the 2022-2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 350 4MATIC and 481 units of the 2022-2023 Mercedes-Benz EQB 300 4MATIC. These vehicles were produced between May 4, 2022, and August 16, 2023. Production records were used to determine the vehicles involved, with those outside the recall population confirmed to have busbar connections that meet the correct production specifications. While Mercedes-Benz has received 20 field reports and 9 warranty claims in the U.S. between January 18, 2023, and March 15, 2025, the company is not aware of any crashes, injuries, or property damage associated with this specific defect in the United States.
Mercedes-Benz plans to address this issue by replacing the high-voltage battery in the affected vehicles, if necessary. The remedy component will feature a busbar screw connection that adheres to the correct production specifications. The manufacturer has implemented a change in its supplier’s production procedure, which is expected to prevent this issue from occurring in future production, effective August 17, 2023. Owners of the affected vehicles will be notified of the recall campaign before September 23, 2025, with dealers being notified on August 1, 2025. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) will be searchable for recall status starting August 1, 2025. Mercedes-Benz USA stated that it does not plan to provide pre-notice reimbursement to owners, as the vehicles are expected to be covered under the new vehicle warranty and were not previously subject to this condition.
