The Department of Homeland Security is cutting over a dozen grants deemed ineffective in countering terrorism, redirecting $18.5 million in taxpayer money. Per a release from DHS, the move follows a strategic review of the Center for Prevention Programs and Partnerships (CP3), which concluded that several funded programs lacked a direct connection to national security objectives. The review found that many of these initiatives were advancing ideological agendas unrelated to the department’s mission of preventing terrorism and targeted violence.

Among the grants eliminated were several with no operational role in counterterrorism. These included over $850,000 to the Eradicate Hate Global Summit, $651,000 to the Institute for Strategic Dialogue and Strong Cities Network, and nearly $480,000 to One World Strong. DHS said these programs focused heavily on diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) messaging and other content labeled as “ideologically biased,” which the department determined failed to fulfill CP3’s core mission.

Other canceled grants include $209,000 to a youth mentorship initiative that promoted gender ideology in early education settings, and nearly $289,000 to CenterLink, a nonprofit with a primary focus on LGBTQ advocacy. The United States Esports Association also lost $206,000 in funding after DHS determined its programs aimed at gamers did not meaningfully relate to homeland security threats.

The decision to terminate these grants reflects the current administration’s focus on prioritizing federal spending on clear, mission-aligned objectives. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, serving under President Donald J. Trump, has emphasized eliminating government waste and enhancing national security capabilities. DHS officials stated that funding will be redirected toward initiatives with a verifiable impact on countering terrorism and protecting the homeland, aligning with the administration’s broader policy direction.
