The Maryland Lottery is inviting artists across the state to capture the essence of Maryland’s landmarks, history and culture in a new “Maryland Treasures” art contest. Beginning July 1, artists over 18 can submit up to five original, vertically-oriented artworks in JPG format for a chance to see their work printed on 2026 scratch-off tickets and earn a $4,000 commission per winning piece.

We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

Artists should plan submissions carefully: entries must be square digital JPGs (scaled to a 4″ × 4″ ticket) without signatures, logos, people, political or religious messaging, or AI-generated elements. Templates (PNG, JPG and PDF) are available for reference only, and any overlays or text from those mock-ups should be excluded. Judges will select three winning works based on creativity and thematic connection.

Artwork must celebrate Maryland’s treasures—from the wild orchids of Oakland to Ocean City’s boardwalk—and cannot appeal to children, use copyrighted material, or have been commercially sold. Residents of Maryland aged 18 or older, submitting solo original works, are eligible to enter; each artist may submit up to five pieces.

Selected artists will receive $4,000 per piece as “works for hire” and will help promote the Maryland Treasures game. Their designs will appear on scratch-offs available at roughly 4,300 retailers statewide beginning in March 2026, offering Marylanders a chance to support local talent—and possibly win big—while buying their tickets.

Prospective entrants should review the Official Rules for full specifications and final printing details. Questions may be directed to the Maryland Lottery at 410-230-8800 or via mail to Montgomery Business Park, 1800 Washington Blvd., Suite 330, Baltimore, MD 21230.
