Residents in Milton may see increased federal presence in their community after a local man was indicted for allegedly using his apartment as a base for selling cocaine. The charges stem from a federal investigation targeting narcotics distribution and are part of a broader national enforcement initiative.

Justo Melendez-Morales, 44, of Milton, was indicted by a federal grand jury in the Middle District of Pennsylvania on May 22, 2025. Prosecutors allege that between late February and early May, Melendez-Morales possessed and distributed approximately 38 grams of cocaine from his residence, which authorities say was being used as a hub for drug trafficking.

The investigation was led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and is linked to Operation Take Back America, a nationwide effort supported by the U.S. Department of Justice. This initiative focuses on dismantling drug cartels and transnational criminal organizations, and it integrates federal resources from the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces and Project Safe Neighborhoods.

If convicted, Melendez-Morales faces up to 30 years in prison, a substantial fine, and supervised release. His sentencing, if found guilty, will be determined by a federal judge following the federal sentencing guidelines.
