Drivers in the market for newer Honda and Acura vehicles should take note of a large-scale safety recall involving over 259,000 vehicles across the U.S. due to a brake defect that could increase the risk of a crash. Honda Motor Co. has confirmed the recall includes several popular models manufactured between late 2020 and early 2025, with owner notifications set to begin by late July.

The affected vehicles include the 2021–2025 Acura TLX, 2023–2025 Acura MDX, and 2023–2025 Honda Pilot. The issue stems from a production flaw where the brake pedal pivot pin was not properly staked during assembly, allowing the pedal to move laterally and possibly leading to unintended braking. This defect, if left unaddressed, could make it difficult for drivers to slow or stop their vehicle safely, increasing the chance of an accident.

The problem arose during a transition in parts manufacturing from the U.S. to a facility in Mexico. Honda identified that insufficient training and a disabled quality-control scanning system contributed to the oversight. Signs of the issue may include unusual brake pedal movement, a persistent brake light, or changes in how the pedal feels when used. So far, Honda has received three warranty claims but no reports of injuries or fatalities connected to the defect.

Honda will notify owners by mail starting July 28, 2025. Vehicle owners are advised to bring their car to an authorized dealer for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the brake pedal assembly at no cost. Those who previously paid out-of-pocket for such repairs may qualify for reimbursement. Honda dealerships are scheduled to begin receiving notification as early as June 13, 2025. To ensure safety, consumers are encouraged to check their vehicle’s VIN and schedule repairs promptly if affected.
